The launch of our app Callblock was not without technical difficulties! But iOS 10.1 has since “fixe[d] an issue that prevented spam alert extensions [like Callblock] from blocking calls” and the just-approved Callblock 1.1 nudges telemarketer updates for those who weren’t receiving them and introduces a bunch of other new features and bug fixes.

Here’s how to get the latest OS and app and what else you’ll find in the app.

Getting iOS 10.1 and Callblock 1.1

If you’ve yet to update to iOS 10.1:

  1. Press the Home button on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install.
  3. Follow the directions there.

You can install Callblock from the App Store. If you have but have yet to update to 1.1:

  1. Press your Home button.
  2. Tap App Store > Updates.
  3. Beside the Callblock listing, tap the Update button.

“Add Caller”

We’re now adding more than 10,000 entries to Callblock’s directory of telemarketers every day. Even so, the app was designed to have an Add Caller button for handling any missing or misclassified callers.

We ended up bumping this feature because Apple couldn’t test the functionality in time for the iOS 10 release. This version of Callblock lets you tap Add Caller to add or remove a caller locally and report them for review to help improve the distributed directory.

Subscription options

This version also gives new users a chance to try the app for free before paying for a subscription.

Existing users will get a free one-year subscription automatically.

And more

Here are the complete release notes for Callblock 1.1:

Re-added “Add Caller”, fixed background fetch, added subscription options (including free trials), updated interface, updated instructions, supporting only 64-bit phones (iPhone 5s and up).

You can follow and message us on Facebook or on Twitter if you have questions or comments and, if you want to be notified about upcoming releases, you can sign up for app updates.
